Females artistes call on women to venture into managing of artistes

Story; Rahamatu-Lahi Zakaria

Managing of artistes in the northern region is reserve for the male and this practice has encouraged sexual and gender-based violence in the music industry. This phenomenon has discouraged many females from venturing into the business while those in the industry are thinking of stopping music.

During a panel discussion at the studios of Sanatu Zambang on sexual and gender-based violence to mark the international women day’s celebration, the female artistes in the region said the sexual harassment exists in the industry because there are no female managers in the industry.

To end the practice, they called on other women to venture into the management for talents. This they believe will go a long way to help women and also bring up new talents in the industry.

For the artistes, the lack of women managers in the business is making the men to take advantage of the women in the industry thereby killing the talents of most female artistes in the region.

According to the artistes, there is nothing like a man’s job. Women can equally manage artistes and they should not be deterred by what the society might say to them

The artistes involve in this project are Meimunatu Laardi, Diva 1, Amie, Reka J, AJ Sugar, Etornam. and FlamesBeats.

This panel discussion was part of a series of activities that Norsaac is undertaking with funding from the European Union while Oxfam and WildafGhana are the implementing partners.
