Tamale based Gender and Governance advocacy organization, Norsaac has observed that the Electoral Commission failed to attach seriousness to the printing of the images of candidates on the ballot papers at the just ended District Level Elections.

According to Norsaac, its monitoring and observer teams recorded the same picture used for two different candidates, confirming widespread reports by Radio Justice’s reporters on the poor quality of the ballot papers on Tuesday.

In its preliminary report from the observation of the 2019 District Assembly and Unit Committee Elections, Norsaac also raised concerns over the low voter turnout in most of the places they monitored.

In the Northern Region, Norsaac’s observer teams were in the Sagnarigu, Savelugu, Tamale Central, South and North constituencies to monitor the elections. It said for example, at 3 pm, only 14 out of a total of 729 registered voters had cast their votes at the Hassania Primary School in the Nyanshegu Electoral Area, a situation it said was worrying.
