The King of Dagban, Yaa Naa Abukari II has hinted a committee of prominent Dagbon chiefs will be put together to look into the protracted Agbogbloshie disputes among Dagombas. The Committee, according to Naa Gbewaa will work together with the giz funded Committee of chiefs and opinion leaders in the Greater Accra Region to find a lasting peace to the Agbogbloshie disputes. The King was speaking when the leadership of the Dagbon community in the Greater Accra Region paid a courtesy call on him at the Gbewaa Palace today. The protracted dispute is usually amongst the Dagomba community in Agbogbloshie, usually made up of scrap dealers and sharply divided on chieftaincy and political lines.
In 2017 after the coming of the NPP led government, hundreds of scrap dealers lost their properties while at least two people died in renewed clashes between NPP and NDC supporters. Shops and other facilities belonging to the NDC supporters were allegedly seized by NPP supporters. Similar clashes occurred after the NDC took over power in 2009 where shops belonging to NPP supporters were allegedly seized by NDC supporters. But the leadership of the Dagbon community says enough is enough. Today, the group has been visiting chiefs in the Dagbon capital Yendi. They first met with Naa Bieli-Zohe Naa, Naa Yeb Kugu-la and finally went to the Gbewaa Palace to seek guidance from the Yaa Nanaa. The King who blessed the work of the Committee of the Dagbon leadership called for an immediate end of the dispute.
