Marie Stopes & Sanatu Zambang; HIGH SCHOOL DRAMA STARTS REHEARSALS

Story by; Rahamatu-Lahi Zakaria

Drama is an important instrument in our society especially in changing the perceptions and also the attitudes of people. Drama can be used to empower the youth and also engage them productively to shy away from risky behavior that is detrimental to their growth.

With this backdrop, Sanatu Zambang has partnered with Marie Stopes International Ghana to use drama in educating young people about their sexual reproductive health, rights, and responsibilities in high schools in the northern region.

The pilot programme is done at Kalisco, in the Sagnarigu Municipality and with the success of this project, a replica will of this project will be done across other senior high schools in the region.

The rehearsal has started in the school for it to be a stage in both the school and the community. Our reporter caught up with some of the students to get their opinion on the subject and this is what they had to say

The lessons I learnt from the drama are; as a student you are not supposed to engage in boyfriend or girlfriend matter, otherwise you are likely to face the consequences of life that is becoming pregnant at young age which can lead to school drop out

What drama means to me is like a sermon to the listeners and including myself. But in summary, it means a moral lesson to me where I will learn to live life.

Nurse

The lesson I have learnt is that, as a girl, I shouldn’t mingle with bad friends who will lead me to something dangerous

The drama means a lot to me and one is that, I have learnt a lot of lessons and my dream is to become a big star and this drama will help me to realised my dream

Know who you are and we should avoid having lovers mostly those who influence us badly. I mean bad influence. We should always make sure we abstain from sex and live a chaste life. And know your level and why you had go to school. Take people advice mostly elders.

I see people act on television and I like to also act. Drama is good thing which makes people happy and proud, because if you appear on the television you will be proud and people will see you and will be like oh ‘’this girl is talented and have a gift of making people happy all the time.’’

Pretty

The lesson I have learned from the dram is about teenage pregnancy abortion and the consequence of it. young girls dating people old enough to be their fathers, friends advising a friend to stay away from relationships popularly called ‘boyfriend-girlfriend’ and lastly if you are not married stay away from casual sex it may lead to pregnancy and abortion which can lead to death. This can end your dreams.

Drama is kind of something to do within real life because there wouldn’t be acting if some people do not experience life. Drama is also fun, sometimes. It teaches lessons. Like what we are about to do will teach a very big lesson not only to the elderly but to the youth most especially.
