For some girls, it was their first time away from home and meeting new friends outside of their districts while others have had these experiences on some number of occasions. Youth Opportunity for Partnership as part of their programming has a girl’s summit whereby they select girls from all the communities that they work into camp mentor them to help in shaping their thoughts and growth as young girls.
The YOPP Girls Summit which is a yearly affair held its third edition in the first week of December 2021 in Tamale at the Pastoral Centre bringing 100 young girls from all the communities that YOPP work in.
The themes for this year YOPP Girls Summit were focused on entrepreneurship training, education on sexual and gender-based violence, sexual and reproductive health, rights and responsibilities. Mentorship, Leadership training and personal growth.
The girls were taken through this training from different individuals and organisations coming to impact them with knowledge on those themes and how they can implement the information given them.
Some of the people and organisations include, including Mr Abu Abubakari thus, the executive director of YOPP, took the girls through leadership and personality building as a young girl growing up. He encouraged them to take up the opportunities given them because not everyone is lucky enough to have mentors around and give them valuable life lessons.
Sanatu Zambang Studios also took the girls through Tie and Dye making and how to value and build relationships that have positive impact on their lives and the kind of future they want to have.
Others include Mr Danna a private development practitioner, Mrs Blessilla and Mr Ahmed of Norsaac also passed through to feed the girls with information on their sexual and reproductive health, rights and responsibilities.
