In battling the pandemic facing the world, many philanthropic organizations and individuals have over the past weeks complimented the efforts of government in several ways.

Even though no vaccines are currently available in the market, medical doctors are doing their best to stabilize and cure infected persons. The World Health Organization has constantly advised on following precautionary measures in order to defeat the virus.

HERPOL Africa (HERPA) over the weekend on Saturday, April 18 visited Nantong-Kurugu, a village under the Nantong constituency. The aim was to sensitize people on the Novel COVD-19 and how to stay safe. The organization which operates under health, education, research, and policy, saw it necessary to contribute their quota to the underprivileged in the Ghanaian society.

The group comprising of a lecturer at UDS, a medical doctor at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, a nurse, teacher, and other volunteers, carried out house-to-house education in the entirety of the village. During the outreach, they gave out alcohol-based sanitizers, nose masks and soaps to each household, coupled with the sensitization.

The CEO and co-founder of the organization; Dr. Osman Dufailu told the chief that even though they are not financially strong to do bigger than what they did, they still find it necessary as a social responsibility to do so. He also told each household and more particularly, the Imam of the village, to become COVID-19 ambassadors  and deliver the message to everyone.

The chief expressed his gratitude on behalf of the community to HERPA for their benevolent act. He said that since the government announced the pandemic and asked for the collaboration of traditional rulers, his palace, no longer holds crowds and has adhered to the social distancing protocols.

HERPA also expressed their appreciation to the chief and the community, volunteers and more especially to Tamale’s radio figure, DJ Carlos who also donated alcohol-based hand sanitizers to the organization.
