The brand is now a popular term in Tamale among radio presenters. Everyone is boasting how big his brand is and how no artistes can pay him to promote their songs on his show.

This brand boasting among radio presenters in the capital has created an imaginary rivalry between radio presenters and musicians. Several times, musicians have clashed with radio presenters who call themselves music critics with little knowledge of how music is composed.

My problem is not the imaginary beef between this group but the nuisance it causes on our airwaves. The airwaves now turn to the battleground that these self-acclaimed professionals radio presenters use to settle their scores with artists and anyone that they have a problem with. It is like they are operating with different sets of media ethics.

The rules do not play here. Words that are not radio-friendly are used.

One wonders if the radio station belongs to these presenters or if they are really employed by the radio stations. But wait a minute, most presenters are not on any payroll of these stations they work for.

All this is done in the name of the brand. Some go as far as using more than 30 minutes of airtime just to sing a song of praise for themselves forgetting about the show his hosting or the radio station that gave him the platform to showcase his skills.

I have no problem with the self-appraisal thing because if you do not praise yourself who else will do that for you. My concern is the manner in which this is done. What do those self-appraisals add to the radio that they work for?

These self-appraisal causes a nuisance to the listeners and do not make radio in the capital appealing. People like us get irritated and make us not listen to most radio programs in the capital.

Radio is more like a battleground where presenters come to trash talk people who say negatives things about them; either on the radio or social media.
