It is five days before the District level Elections and today, Tudu Lahabli Kpana’s Ibrahim Adam on Justice FM speaks to two of the very few women who have been bold to contest in the election.

Even though females constitute more than half of the population of the country, it is still a worry to women empowerment groups that only a few occupy political positions.

Past and present governments have initiated deliberate policies to encourage the participation of women in decision making, however, the gap still remains.

In the run-up to the December 17, district assembly election, Ibrahim Adam of Justice FM spent some time with two of such women, an aspiring assembly member for Nyohini South, Mohammed Zuleiha and Aspiring Assemblymember for Jakpahi Electoral Area, Adamu Esther Abdulai and has come through with this report.

She called herself a feminist, a term most women shy away from especially in the northern region.
Her kind of feminism as she explained is not the one that seeks to bring down the man and uplift the woman

Mohammed Zuleiha says she looked up to Hon. Mariam Iddrisu the MCE for Sagnarigu District who is a woman, the Tolon DCE, and the Savelugu, MCE who are also women like her and realized the importance of women in decision making.

she also thanked her predecessors for their good works and hopes the community supports her in her ambition.”

Adamu Esther said, “I have the aim of developing the community and to empower the young girls in the community to study hard and aim higher using myself as a mentor.”

she entreats that women should be given opportunities in making decisions.
