IBM&J Tamale partners with SWIDA-GH to host girls’ girl’s leadership and health talk seminar

Institute of business management and Journalism (IBM&J) in Tamale under the dean of students organized it first ever Girls Girls Leadership and Health Talk seminar on Saturday 8th May, 2021 at the premises of the school.

The Girls Girls Leadership and Health Talk seminar was done in partnership with Savannah Women Integrated Development Agency (SWIDA-GH) to equip young women to become the better version of themselves.

In a welcome address by the Dean of student, Miss Khadija Abdul Samed, reiterated the importance of the seminar. According her, the seminar is one of the things that the office of the dean of students is undertaking to assure students that, the office is always open to students and should any student face any problem, they should feel free to approach the office.

The seminar was divided into two sessions; leadership and health. The leadership session was facilitated by the executive director for SWIDA-GH, Hajia Halima Sagito Saeed while the health aspect was facilitated by Mrs. Elizabeth Samwin, a midwife at Tamale Central Hospital at the department of Reproductive Child Health.

Hajia Halima Sagito Saeed spoke on the theme ‘’ succeeding as a woman leader in the midst of challenges’’. In her presentation, Hajia Halima acknowledged, that the path to leadership is not a smooth one for women especially Muslim women in this part of the country. But she also stressed that the limitations should not be a reason why women should not aim higher in leadership. She encourages the young girls to develop networks that are beneficial to them in their growth and also told them to be respectful and at the same time, they should be assertive.

While Mrs. Elizabeth Samwin spoke on hygiene management and reproductive health rights. For her hygiene management is very key to the development of women in their everyday life and also women who want to become leaders. According to her, appearance account in developing leadership position because people will always look at how you present yourself.

She also spoke on women’s reproductive health rights. With reproductive health rights, she says every woman has the right to go to any health facility to ask for information regarding their reproductive health and the services that they can get from the health facility.
