Women are rising to challenge for positions that are presumably for men in our communities. Sumani Meimunatu, President for Young Rural Women in Tibung is dreaming and working to one day contest the position of Unit Community Member or Assemblywoman in her community.
She made this revelation in the studios of Sanatu Zambang during a Facebook Live session as part of the activities that the Youth Opportunity for Partnership Programme is carrying out ahead of the International Women’s Day on 8th March 2021.
Miss Meimunatu’s dream is to climb to the highest corridor of power in the country and this unit Committee Member and Assemblywoman position is going to be a learning process to achieving her dream.
She has the support of her father who she says has been encouraging her to pursue her dreams. According to her, when she told her father about contesting for elections at the district level, he encouraged her and advised her to work hard towards that.
Fadila Ziblim -I want a community free of discrimination and GBV
Gender activist under Youth Opportunity for Partnership Programme (YOPP), Fadila Ziblim wants to use her voice to create a community free of gender discrimination and sexual and gender-based violence against women.
She made this known during a Facebook Live session in the studios of Sanatu Zambang to discuss YOPP activities for the 2021 International Women’s Day celebration.
Miss Fadila wants to use poetry and the confidence that she acquired from YOPP to embark on a journey to combat gender discrimination and sexual and gender-based violence in her community.
Another wish of hers is to see more women climb to the top, either in education or leadership positions in her community. The dream is not just to have women in positions of power but to be able to speak up and influence the people around them.
