Poetic Theatrical Play set to be staged in Tamale: a dose from The High Court of Poetry

In an exciting blend of art and advocacy, Tamale is set to host a powerful theatrical performance addressing the current state of education in Ghana. The High Court of Poetry (THCOP), in partnership with School for Life, will present a thought-provoking stage play on Saturday, 5th October, 2024, at Radach Lodge and Conference Center. The performance is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM.

Written by Abdul-Hakim Genius and directed by Najaat Hussein, this one-of-a-kind play, crafted around the format of a courtroom drama, seeks to bring to light the persistent issues plaguing Ghana’s public education sector. From negligence in educational management to inadequate infrastructure and a shortage of teachers, the play casts a critical eye on the challenges that have stunted the growth of the nation’s educational system.

At the heart of the performance is the character Mr. Sofo, a passionate and patriotic Ghanaian citizen who can no longer remain a passive observer of the decaying education system. Determined to hold the powers that be accountable, Mr. Sofo sues the Government of Ghana for its mishandling of public education, calling for justice and a reformation of the sector. The courtroom, set as the Supreme Court of Ghana, becomes the battleground where lawyers of both the plaintiff and the defense exchange sharp arguments and evidence in a bid to win the case.

This theatrical event goes beyond entertainment—it is a call to action, sparking dialogue about the state of education in the country and proposing ways forward to address these systemic failures. The producers skillfully use the model of a court to symbolize the search for justice and accountability in the sector, making it a must-watch for all concerned citizens.

Tickets for the event are selling fast at 50 Ghana cedis each, with an early bird offer of 40 Ghana cedis. For ticket reservations and inquiries, you can contact 0555782209 or 0206624706.

Don’t miss this riveting performance that combines art, passion, and social commentary to raise critical questions about Ghana’s future. Be there to witness the drama, and join the conversation on how we can build a better education system for the next generation.
