Northern Ghana Sexual Reproductive Health Right Conference for young people opens in Tamale.
Tamale, 1st-5th September, The Northern Ghana Sexual Reproductive Health Right (SRHR) Conference for Young People (NORGHA) has opened in Tamale
Aimed to open up conversations and discuss practical concerns about SRHR to enable national decision-makers to make informed policies on SRHR. The 2024 NORGHA provided a secure environment for young people to seek more understanding on issues about SRHR without fear or threat.
Mr. Edmond Moukala, Unesco Reproductive to Ghana, speaking during the opening of the conference in Tamale on Monday, said the conference was also to assess the issues on SRHR so that the best course of action could be taken by policymakers.
”Sexual and reproductive health and rights affect the entire community, not just individuals. He also noted that every community and country benefits from having young people who are strong, knowledgeable, and self-reliant. It is more probable that young women will finish school and go after their dreams if they are encouraged to put off marriages and having children until they are ready. Relationships and family benefit when young men learn to value and honor each partner’s autonomy.” – Mr Edmond Moukala
The four-day conference; is organized by Norsaac, a civil society organization, and its partners, OXFAM in Ghana, PPAG, Power to Choose, Canada, SEND Ghana, WilDaf, AXIS, etc.
This year’s event brought together over 500 young people from the Northern, North East, Savannah, Upper East, and Upper West Regions. On the theme;” Healthy, informed, and empowered; young people leading the way in SRHR.
