Officers of the Ghana Immigration Service at the Savelugu inland post have intercepted an OA bus with registration number GT 8242-19 en route to Accra with nineteenth(19) Burkinabe nationals onboard.
A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Immigration Service in the Northern Region Christian Kobla Kekeli Zilevu said when the passengers were interrogated it was revealed that they used unapproved routes into the country.
He said the Burkinabes attempted bribing the migration officials with each of them offering a Ghc100 to the officers to be allowed to continue their journey but the officers turned down the bribe and arrested them.
The Public Relations Officer said the Deputy Northern Regional Commander of the Immigration Service sent a signal to the Officer In Charge of the Paga Border post about the situation and asked that they are received and repatriated the foreigner’s whiles alternative arrangement made to transport the remaining passengers who were Ghanaian national to Accra.
Mr. Zilevu added that the officers were pleased with the cooperation of the OA transport management in handling the issues and appeal to other transport operators to emulate their example to help curb the spread of the coronavirus disease.
