”Better Safe Than Sorry”; A stage drama by Kalpohin Senior High School

Story by; Rahamatu-Lahi Zakaria

Drama is an important instrument in our society especially in changing the perceptions and also the attitudes of people. Drama can be used to empower the youth and also engage them productively to shy away from risky behavior that is detrimental to their growth.

With this backdrop, Sanatu Zambang has partnered with Marie Stopes International Ghana to use drama in educating young people about their sexual reproductive health, rights, and responsibilities in high schools in the northern region.

The pilot program is done at Kalisco, in the Sagnarigu Municipality and with the success of this project, a replica will of this project be done across other senior high schools in the region.

The rehearsal has started in the school for it to be a stage in both the school and the community. Our reporter caught up with some of the students to get their opinion on the subject and this is what they had to say.

” This drama has taught me how to relate with girls and be careful around girls. ” — Hassan

Mawuli Rose plays the character Mz G  ” Know who you are and we should avoid having lovers mostly those who influence us badly. I mean bad influence. We should always make sure we abstain from sex and live a chaste life. And know your level and why you had to go to school. Take people’s advice mostly elders. I see people act on television and I like to also act. Drama is a good thing which makes people happy and proud because if you appear on the television you will be proud and people will see you and will be like oh ‘’this girl is talented and have a gift of making people happy all the time.’’

” As young girls, we should be mindful of the kind of friends we surround ourselves with. I’m passionate about acting and I believed l one day I will become an actress ” Paulina
