A group of Doctors from the Czech Republic have begun an exercise to offer free surgery to women with obstetric and gynecological problems at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
The exercise is part of a co-operation agreement between the group and the Tamale Teaching Hospital. Patients will first be taken through screening to check the severity of the sicknesses before the surgery is done.
The Leader of the Czech Republic group of doctors, Prof Michal Zikan tells Tudu Lahabali Kpana’s Hamza Mohammed the aim of the program is to support patients who cannot afford their surgery. He said their team of doctors will offer surgical services that are not usually done in Ghana.
Mr. Zikan said all surgeries are free to all patients because the Czech Republican government has paid for it. He said the program was started in 1993, noting however that, this is their first time coming to Tamale to help patients. Mr. Zikan said the future of the exercise at the TTH will depend on the extent of support residents offer the project.
Some of the patients who spoke to Tudu Lahabali Kpana expressed their gratitude to the government of the Czech Republic for their support. They said they could not afford the money for the surgeries conducted on them. They thanked the team of doctors for that kind gesture. They urged people in the region to take these opportunities from the Czech government.
