Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Boamah Otokunor believes that the recent Afrobarometer report gives strong indications that a lot of Ghanaians are disappointed in the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to him, the fact that only 34 percent of Ghanaians say they will vote for the incumbent party, shows that the NPP government has lost a lot of goodwill from the populace.
The Afrobarometer report indicated that 34percent of Ghanaians said they will vote for the incumbent government while 22percent said they will vote for the major opposition party, the NDC if elections were held the previous day.
The NPP’s 2019 figure of 34percent is a 15percent drop from the 49percent of people who said they will vote for the NPP the previous year. Otokunor in an interview on Accra based Citi Fm said a lot of Ghanaians are unwilling to vote for the NPP government because they feel they are being misled by the government.
However, the NPP’s Communications Director, Yaw Buaben Asamoa is optimistic that the figure will soon go up following measures put in place by the government.
Yaw Buaben Asamoa said the citizens are indecisive because their expectations have not yet been met since the government is still cleaning the supposed mess it inherited from the Mahama administration.
