Zakaria Rahama: Why Optional King should run at his own speed

Rahamatu-Lahi Zakaria  || Editor Sanatu Zambang

Just a few weeks after Optional King won the TV3 mentor reloaded, fans and some self-acclaim industry players are putting pressure on him to release a song just because his main rival in the competition, Chichiz has already released one.

Optional King is no longer local champion again and it is not everyday he should be releasing music that cannot even cross the door of his room. The content of the production that he has to do should be great, music that can reach everyone in Ghana can and they jam to it. His music now should not limit to only pleasing his fans in the north.

This pressure that fans and industry players are mounting on Optional King is unnecessary. I do not know the kind of music that these critics want him to release or what he wants to release. But the kind of music I want him to do that I know. I want him to do music that can stand the test of time. Music is meant for worldwide consumption and not just his home and music that does not fade within a few minutes.

Chichiz has released a song so what? Optional King and Chichiz are not the same and the brand they are all creating is different. There should not be any pressure from fans or any sector for him to rush and release a song.

The music business is dynamic, one strategy might work for musician A does not mean it will work for musician B. I am much particular about the quality of music that he will be doing and not how long it takes him to come out with a song.

I want Optional King to make hit songs, not because of his collaboration with southern artists like the trend we are experiencing now in the northern region. I want him to be able to produce a hit song nationwide without a feature from any southern artist. That is the kind of artist I want him to be and if it will take him some time to do that, why not. I do not mind the long wait.

Another thing we need to remember is that the competition is over. This is the real world and not the TV3 Mentor reloaded, where he is given a specific time to rehearse and perform a song that Chichiz is involved in. It looks like people have not grasped the fact that, the competition is over and they do not have to compete with each other in releasing songs. This is about their individual branding, coming to please their fans and making a mark in the music industry.

So Optional please take all the time in the world you need to produce a piece of world-class music that will stand the test of time. But most importantly engage your fans frequently. Tease fans on your social media handle on what project you are currently working on. Whatever you do, make sure you keep your fans updated, and to critics prove them wrong with your next project. Let everyone know that the music they waited for was worth the long wait.
