Yesterday, Mohammed Mutaru Alhassan took a road safety campaign initiative to educate drivers, station managers and passengers in the Tamale Metropolis on the need to be careful on the roads as the nation gets ready for the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.

Christmas and New year celebrations are always characterized by the high rate of road crashes due to the high number of passengers traveling to various parts of the country to celebrate the feast with family and friends while the same period is when most people take their vocation.

In the Northern part of the country, the Harmattan also contributes to poor visibility on the roads. Wrongful overtaking, over speeding, overloading, driving tired and drunk driving among other things have been identified as the key factors contributing to road crashes in the country. For this, I am calling on drivers to desist from these in order to ensure a safer celebration.

Mohammed Mutaru Alhassan was at various bus stations in Tamale including the Wa, Bolga, Yendi and Accra stations of the main Tamale Bus Stop and at the GH Express and Imperial Express stations to speak to drivers, station managers and passengers on the need to ensure safety on the roads.
